WHO
WE ARE
Addictions Victorious (AV) is a network of Christ centered
support and recovery groups. Our meetings are open to men and women
of all
ages who are seeking lasting change in their lives. We
reach out in the love of our Lord Jesus to those who struggle with
various
addictions. We also embrace loved ones and friends who find themselves
on the other side of addiction; those who are being adversely impacted
by the addict’s destructive lifestyle.
OUR GOAL
To lead one another to God’s throne of amazing Grace; to
the feet of our Lord Jesus, who alone is able to provide complete pardon,
deliverance, healing, and transformation. An abundant, God glorifying life
can be found by each believing heart that enters into a personal relationship
with Christ.
OUR VISION
We partner with local church families and various Christian ministries
that desire to reach out to the brokenhearted who are struggling with
addiction related issues. Coming along side the body of Christ, AV helps
carry the heavy burden of this most traumatic and life consuming experience.
We embrace the addict, their loved ones, and friends as they go through
this very trying process.
AV
is eager and prepared to assist pastors, church leaders, and their
congregations (including other Christian ministries),
with establishing
their own AV support groups at their location. We will supply the resources
and help train and equip leaders from within your congregation or outreach
who have a heart for the AV ministry.
We
conduct ongoing Facilitator training using an entirely biblical discipleship
curriculum that targets
the very core issues of addiction. AV will provide meeting materials,
mentoring techniques, and 24/7 support and accountability assistance.
Pastors
and their designated AV leaders will also benefit by connecting with
our experienced leadership community. Our around the clock assistance
includes a single point treatment referral contact that streamlines
the process of finding help during a crisis by making one telephone
call—connecting
you with a network of resources including detox facilities, in and out
patient rehabilitation therapy (secular and Christian), crisis interventions, counseling
resource referrals, and more.

WHY A CHRISTIAN RECOVERY GROUP?
Those familiar with the Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) format may well ask
the question above. For followers of Christ, the answer is simple.
We have identified the Lord Jesus as our higher power and we
welcome the opportunity to meet in His presence to explore the
problems associated with addiction through the lens of Scripture (the Bible).
In a comfortable and confidential setting we speak freely about
our
relationship with Christ and share our struggles with faith related issues.
Christians
are not immune to addictive or compulsive behaviors, and hiding
our problems from our brethren adds to our shame and guilt burden, which
hinders
healing
and spiritual growth.
Those
unfamiliar with the good news of Christ have an opportunity to come
to know our true higher power,
Jesus the Messiah! In an AV group participants find an atmosphere
of unconditional Christian love and embracement that nourishes and encourages
an intimate personal relationship with Christ.
Newcomers
can begin to learn the reality that there is a spiritual element connected
with their inner struggle of addiction. The addiction that
has
them tightly in its grip is only the symptom of a much deeper problem;
and that
ultimate
freedom, lasting change, and total serenity can only be
found through the pathway of the heart. In the AV setting,
forgiveness and the release from shame and guilt can be realized
as
we collectively approach our God with reverent, humble, and contrite
hearts.
OUR MEETINGS
A warm and friendly atmosphere provides loving support and fellowship;
engaging in genuine confidential sharing and caring, coupled
with the study of Scripture and intercessory prayer. We also encourage
and assist
one another with the building of healthy relationships; thereby
expanding our sphere of support resources within the body of Christ
(church
family), for the purpose of nurturing on going forthright accountability
and
spiritual growth.
Two of the resources many of our meetings use are Tyndale’s Life Recovery Bible and associated 12 step workbook.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
"Anyone in bondage to the rule of a substance, activity, or
state of mind, which then becomes the center of life, defending
itself
from
the truth so that even
bad consequences don’t bring repentance, and leading to further
estrangement from God.” Edward T. Welch, A Banquet in the Grave
Common addictions include such things as substances (alcohol and
drugs), tobacco, sex, pornography, gambling, pleasure, food, sports,
work, success...etc.
How
To Start an Addictions Victorious Support Group
Evangelical Christian churches or ministries must submit an Addictions Victorious (AV) Application along with their Doctrinal Statement.
AV does not seek to exercise control over affiliated groups, but rather encourages them to function independently. The role of AV is one of "coming along side" provide assistance, biblical resources, and to serve as a central coordination point for our network of affiliated groups.
There is no affiliation fee, as we are a totally "free will" supported ministry; however, we do encourage our hosting churches/ministries to consider AV in their Missions giving & with special offerings when prompted by the Lord.
The individual(s) identified on the Application, as the Addictions Victorious (AV) support group facilitators must:
|
| • |
have not less than twelve months of total abstinence from any previous addiction, |
| • |
be actively involved, and in good standing in the Christian church or ministry that is seeking to partner with Addictions Victorious, |
| • |
provide at least three (3) spiritual character references (with contact information), |
| • |
and agree to complete at least one Addictions Victorious facilitator training course. (This is comprised of a twelve-lesson home study discipleship curriculum completed at your own pace, followed by attendance at an all-day curriculum review seminar–typically held on a Saturday in January). Loaner DVD's are available for distance meetings who are unable to attend the annual seminar. |
